Please read this great story about children in Salina and Abilene, Kansas, raising money for charity in Haiti.
After the devastating earthquake in Haiti this past January, SOS Children’s Villages, Youth HandsOn Network, and Hasbro, Inc., came together to create a nationwide fundraising initiative for kids — PLAYATHON for Haiti.
Children from across the USA — just like those students from St. John Bosco Service Club of St. Mary’s School in Salina Kansas and St. Andrew’s After-School students of Abilene Kansas — raised pledges and donations by playing games for hours. The games these children played (donated by Hasbro) helped raise funds to purchase “pop-up” shelters for people who lost their homes in the earthquake.
All funds raised during the initiative benefited SOS Children’s Villages, a nonprofit organization committed to the long-term care of children without parental care. SOS Children’s Villages has been operating in Haiti for 30 years and has been working to provide a safe haven for children affected by the earthquake.
